A Review of Earthquake Source Parameters in the Main Ethiopian Rift

We assessed earthquake source parameters compiled from previous studies and international databases. In addition, moment tensor inversion is made the broadband seismic data of two earthquakes that occurred in region 2017 2018 with magnitudes Mw 5.0 5.1, respectively. Normal mechanisms consistent major plate divergence, whereas components observed might be associated counterclockwise rotation Danakil microplate, mechanism would indicate an oblique-slip between Nubian microplate. However, focal obtained for 5.1 event indicates dominant accompanied minor component western margin Afar, has significant central part MER. The depths within upper crust, including (Mw 5.0) depth 9.7 km was computed using inversion.
